Exploring Fred Olsen's Borealis by Amber

Last year I had the opportunity to spend a few days with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines aboard the beautiful Borealis. From the moment we boarded in Dover to disembarking in Iceland, it was a journey filled with discovery, great food, and unforgettable moments.

Our cruise began in Dover, where we boarded Borealis and headed straight to the buffet for a relaxed lunch. Once our cabins were ready, we checked in before regrouping for a guided tour of the ship.

Later that evening before our first dinner in the main dining restaurants (Aurora and Borealis) we went along to the famous Martini Experience!

Our first full day at sea gave us time to properly explore the ship. I started my morning at The Outlook with stunning views, followed by a peaceful coffee break in the Botanical Room which became my favourite spot on the ship!

We had a light lunch at the Poolside Restaurant before wandering the outer decks. A stroll around the Promenade Deck and some fresh air on the Sports Deck made for a perfect afternoon.

That evening was our formal night. Not having cruised before I was unsure of how the formal night was to be. Even though you do not have to partake in the formal night (the buffet dining is always open for casual dining) It was fantastic seeing everybody dressed up and made for a great evening!

With another day at sea, I opted for room service breakfast – enjoying it at a leisurely pace while watching the ocean go by from my cabin.

In the afternoon, we indulged in traditional Afternoon Tea in the Observatory Lounge.

That evening, we dined at Vasco, one of Borealis’ speciality restaurants, the food was amazing! It is definitely worth booking the speciality restaurants.

We arrived early into Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Despite the foggy weather, we had a lovely couple of hours here exploring!

Back on board, we visited Bubble and Speak, a session with the ship’s sommelier who introduced us to the world of Champagne and sparkling wine.

Before dinner, we dropped into Margarita Night at the Ocean Bar. Dinner was once again in the main dining restaurant, The menu changes daily so there is always something different to try!

Another relaxing sea day began with breakfast in the main dining restaurant, Breakfast here is served a la carte style, it was great to compare it to the buffet breakfast and room service breakfast.

In the afternoon, we joined the Cheese & Wine Tasting with the sommelier, which was an absolute highlight. Her knowledge and passion is incredible!

Before our final dinner, we stopped by the Ocean Bar again for the Fire & Ice cocktail evening (a clever nod to our imminent arrival in Iceland). We finished the day with an unforgettable dinner at Colours and Tastes, the ship’s second speciality restaurant.

Today we docked in Reykjavik! We had a quick pitstop at the famous blue lagoon before our flight back to London.

Being a first time cruiser, I would thoroughly recommend anyone to try it and of course, especially on an amazing Fred Olsen cruise!
