New York

New York
As soon as you arrive you'll get caught up in the unbelievable energy of this frenetic city, with each
distinctive neighbourhood offering you entirely different sights, sounds and even smells to capture your imagination. From the sophistication of uptown Upper West Side to the downtown bohemian chic of the West Village, from Chinatown to Little Italy, from Murray Hill to Midtown, there's something for every personality in this schizophrenic city.

Traditional must-sees include The Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square with its enormous advertising billboards, the New York Stock Exchange; where you can witness the exciting atmosphere of the trading floor; the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) with the world's largest collection of modern painting and sculpture, the tranquil oasis of Central Park and the glamorous 5th Avenue. New places to visit include Columbus Circle, home to the new AOL Time Warner Centre, filled with luxury shops and restaurants, and the Museum of Arts and Design. CNN's broadcast studios are here too and well worth a visit!

The famous department stores Bloomingdale's and Macy's are a must, especially with Bloomingdale's brand-new expansion into SoHo at 504 Broadway - 6 floors of younger fashion brands to explore! A walk down the amazing 5th Avenue for its big designer names is also great fun. Down in Greenwich Village you'll find trendy one-off boutiques and there are plenty of street sellers with bargain replica Prada to barter for in Battery Park!

There are thousands of restaurants in this city representing every type of cooking possible. Try the obvious ones: Little Italy for Italian (try Mulberry St), Chinatown for Chinese food - it's also good for Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. TriBeCa has its fair share of trendy restaurants and bars, reflecting its minimalist loft living, while Greenwich Village is packed with inexpensive cafés and bars - head to Bleecker St in the West Village, and if you're missing your curry go to 6th St between 1st and 2nd to an area known as Little India.

The average flying time from the UK is 7 ½ hours, with the majority of airlines offering a direct service. Or why not try a transatlantic cruise onboard the Queen Mary 2.
