DAY 1 Saturday 4 October UK-Barcelona

We fly to Barcelona and transfer to the Ocean Majesty. We will be moored here overnight allowing plenty of time to explore the dynamic capital of Catalonia.

DAY 2 Barcelona
This is a vibrant city of bustling boulevards, lush parks, fine historic monuments and, perhaps most famously of all, striking Modernista architecture. See the magnificent cathedral and mediaeval alleyways; climb the Montjuic Hill for stunning views over the city, and don’t forget to take a stroll down Las Ramblas, where market stalls, tarot readers and street theatre vie for space in front of pavement cafes. Shore excursions feature the amazing architecture of Antoni Gaudi; and a city tour incorporating the Gothic Quarter and the Spanish Village. We set sail at 1630.

DAY 3 Toulon
The ancient French naval base of Toulon is our gateway to Provence. The narrow winding streets leading from the Vieux Port give the city a traditional charm and where better to enjoy a glass of wine than in a charming pavement cafe as you watch the sleek yachts at anchor in the sparkling waters of the bay. A shore excursion takes us to Aix en Provence, the birthplace of Cezanne. This stylish university city has a wealth of 17th and 18th century architecture, especially along the Cours Mirabeau, where weathered stone mansions are adorned with wrought iron balconies. Alternatively, join a trip to Cassis, a picturesque Mediterranean fishing village hemmed in by white cliffs and slopes of vineyards. A wine tasting is also included on the tour.

DAY 4 Nice
Founded by the Greeks in the 5th century BC, Nice is a delightful city located on the French Riviera. Explore the narrow alleys of the walled old town, stopping at the many shops and stalls selling local produce; or stroll along the palm-lined Promenade des Anglais. Perhaps join an excursion to the glamorous principality of Monaco or take a tour to the ancient city of St Paul de Vence, which has retained much of its mediaeval character.

DAY 5 Genoa
The birthplace of Christopher Columbus has been a prominent sea power since the 10th century and remains Italy’s most important port. A city tour will explore the labyrinth of narrow alleys at the heart of the old city; take in the San Lorenzo Cathedral with its black and white striped Gothic facade; and show us some of the city’s remarkable new architecture such as the Bigo, built in 1992 and incorporating a revolving sightseeing lift. Shore excursions out of the city include three of the Italian Riviera’s most beautiful resorts, Portofino, Rapallo and Santa Margherita.

DAY 6 Livorno
The port of Livorno is our gateway to the great Renaissance cities of Tuscany. Shore excursions are available to Pisa, site of the famous Leaning Tower; wonderfully preserved Siena, littlechanged since the Middle Ages; and the classic city of Florence with its famous Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and world-renowned art galleries.

DAY 7 Elba
The beautiful, mountainous island of Elba is famed for its white sandy beaches, tiny coves and lush, wooded landscapes. Perhaps take a ride on the cableway to the summit of Monte Capanne, Elba’s highest point – here you will be rewarded with an amazing view across to the French island of Corsica. Alternatively, join one of our superb shore excursions including a panoramic island tour and a trip focusing on Napoleon’s year in exile here in 1814.

DAY 8 Civitavecchia
Our final port of call is the gateway to Rome and you will have the opportunity to explore on your own or take part in a panoramic tour with an expert guide. The sheer number offamous sights is staggering: from St Peter’s Square to the Vatican; the mighty Colosseum to the ancient Forum – you will be spoilt for choice. Perhaps take a break in one of the many cafes in the Piazza Navona before enjoying more of the city’s treasures such as the wonderfully preserved Pantheon and the extraordinary Trevi Fountain: remember to toss in a coin, to ensure your return to the city.

DAY 9 Sunday 12 October Civitavecchia-UK
We transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.
